Volunteer Opportunities
Museum Guide
Our goal is to welcome visitors to the Homestead more often—but we can’t do it without you. Whether you can offer one hour a month or an occasional weekend, your time makes a real difference in preserving and sharing our community’s history. Please note that we do offer volunteer opportunities to non-DAR members. The follow volunteer opportunities are for adults 18 years or older.
Guides do not need historical education for our walk through. Our experienced historians will continue to lead our signature one-hour Historical Tour.
We are now offering a new 30-minute Walk-Through Tour, which is a shorter and more accessible option offered at a reduced rate for adults and children.
This tour allows guests to explore the Homestead and view its artifacts at their own pace, and it creates a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to gain hands-on experience in museum operations.

If you’re interested in guiding visitors through the Homestead and helping them connect with the stories within its walls, please complete the volunteer form below. We’d be honored to have you join our team.
Docent
If you have a passion for history and enjoy sharing stories with others, we would love to welcome you as a docent at the Madam Brett Homestead. Our 45-minute History Tour highlights the lives of the descendants of Catherine and Roger Brett, who lived in the Homestead from 1709 to 1954, and invites visitors to step directly into their world.
New docents receive full support, including study materials and training from our Historian, Curator, and experienced guides. You’ll be part of a dedicated team committed to preserving and interpreting one of Dutchess County’s greatest treasure.

Help us reach our goal of opening the museum more often!
