Bringing local Revolutionary War history to life at the very home where it unfolded. In this 12-minute video, I explore the life and service of Major Henry Schenck (also known as Hendrick), who married Hannah Brett — granddaughter of Madam Catharyna Brett — right here at the homestead. As a Major in the Dutchess County Militia and Assistant Commissary General, he played a vital role supplying Washington’s army from the Rombout Precinct area. This is my synthesis drawn from years of digging through primary sources: old wills, deeds, newspapers, military records, and more. I had to condense a great deal to fit the story into one short video, so I’ve left out many fascinating details. My hope? That this video sparks your curiosity. Watch it, enjoy the story, and then go do your own research — even if it’s to prove me wrong! Share any additional sources or differing interpretations in the comments. History comes alive when we all dig deeper together. What truths will you uncover?
